The NPP Chairman in an interview on the Wontumi Morning show noted that Ghanaians would be giving thanks to President Akufo-Addo by appreciating his votes for his good works.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi specifically noted that final year students now referred to as “Akufo-Addo graduates” and all other students who are benefiting from the free Senior High Secondary School policy would show appreciation by voting for the New Patriotic Party.
Their votes, according to the NPP Chairman would ensure a resounding victory for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP.
“2020 is a thanksgiving service for President Akufo-Addo”, Chairman Wontumi said.
In his 12th address to the nation on Covid-19, President Akufo-Addo wished final year students who are writing their WASSCE exams good luck and respectfully referred to them as the “Akufo-Addo graduates.”
The ‘Akufo-Addo graduates’, are the first group of beneficiaries of Government’s Free Senior High School policy,to sit the WASSCE exams. 1.2 million children, the highest such enrolment in our nation’s history, because of this policy.
President Akufo-Addo has explained that by free SHS, his government means free tuition, admission fee, textbooks, library fees, science center fees, fees for ICT, examination fee, payment of utility fee, boarding and meals.
Article 25 1b of the 1992 Constitution states that “Secondary education in its different forms including technical and vocational education, shall be made generally available and accessible to all by every appropriate means, and in particular, by the progressive introduction of free education”.
Goal 4, Target 1 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also states that “by 2030, all boys and girls complete free equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes”.
