The Ashanti Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) is set to begin a mass disconnection exercise across the region on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

The “Operation rectify and collect all debt” initiative will affect the state broadcaster’s, Garden City radio and television.

According to KasapaFMonline report, Managing Director of the Ashanti Regional ECG, David Asamoah said the amount of debt owed by governmental bodies is impacting the region’s operations.

He stated that the national broadcaster, for example, owes ECG a debt of nearly GHC 20m and has made no attempt to pay it.

According to him, the same exercise will affect Kumasi International Airport, as well as other commercial and private entities.

Just recently, Kumasi Kejetia market power was cut off and restored on the same day. The newly appointed Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Pyne was the one who intervened before the power was restored.

Due to a lack of funds, the ECG Ashanti MD stated that there is now a shortage of prepaid meters in the region and that they are having difficulty replenishing to meet the demand of its customers.

As a result, the ECG is advising all customers in the region to settle any outstanding debts by Wednesday, October 20, 2021, or face the consequences.

The goal of the “operation correct and collect” is to fix all incorrect bills and recover all debts owed by ECG consumers to their power providers.

We are hoping government agencies owing this huge amount of monies are dealt with before.
