“Tollbooths Are Not Marketplaces; Go To The Market And Sell There” – Majority leader Kyei-Mensah Bonsu To Hawkers
The Majority leader in Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu says the government’s decision to close down tollbooths is apt.
Speaking on Okay FM, the Member of Parliament for Suame noted that monies accrued from the various tollbooths end up being used to service the very same place thereby making it a useless venture.
This was in a response to comments by hawkers who ply their trade around the various tollbooths in the country that they have lost their source of livelihood as a result of the close-down. According to Mr. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, the tollbooth is not a market center.
To him, it doesn’t make much sense for any hawker to complain that their jobless because tollbooths have been closed down.
The Majority whip insists tollbooths were not created to serve as a market centers for street hawkers, although sympathizing with them for the tough times in the country, he noted that they can replenish their trade somewhere else.
