Media General, owners of Onua TV and its morning show host, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly called Captain Smart have been sued for GH¢100 million.
The lawsuit was filed by a customs officer, Clement Agyeman, over claims of defamation.
Details of the defamation claim fingers Captain Smart for using Onua TV to label the plaintiff a thief.
The plaintiff is a former national athlete, who is currently a Revenue Assistant Grade 3 officer of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Clement Agyeman claims that Captain Smart and his employers published “completely false and highly defamatory” words of him on December 15 and 16, 2021.
According to the plaintiff, the defendants caused the defamatory words to be published on their programme dubbed ‘Onua Maakye’ with Captain Smart.
Furthermore, the defamatory words were streamed on other media outlets, such as YouTube, Facebook, Pendream TV, and many others.
The plaintiff said his family and friends alerted him after they watched and listened to the ‘Onua Maakye’ programme on hearing his name mentioned in association with the defamatory words.
According to the plaintiff, Captain Smart, who is the first defendant paid him no attention when he called to complain and claim innocence in the allegations levelled against him.
According to the plaintiff, the majority of his colleagues at work treat him with disgust whilst his children have become targets for bullies in school.
