Frank Mensah, a resident at Nzema in Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region was taken into police custody on a charge of threatening an ECG staff when he was confronted over the illegal connection of light current.
The ECG staffs reported to the police when they retreated from a cutlass chase from Frank. The police came into the matter and arrested Frank on charges of theft and threatening to kill.
” My men were on their normal revenue mobilisation rounds and went to the house of Mensah to inspect his meter but the meter was off and not running. During the inspection, it was discovered that while Mensah had his electrical gadgets including bulbs working.
My men said when Mr. Mensah realized that we had detected his illegal connection, he went to pick a cutlass, threatened to slash the workers, and asked them to leave the house”. the Ashanti Regional Revenue Protection Manager of ECG, Mr Ishmael Oku explained.
He said the workers had to file a complaint with the police who asked for witnesses and interviewed some of their men to effect his arrest.
Mr. Oku said that Power theft has been one of the challenges facing their company and they’d work to keep it under control because it is affecting states revenue.
