Apiate town to get $5million from the $6million fine imposed on Maxam mining company

H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has directed that $5 million from the $6 million fine imposed on Maxam Ghana Limited over its role in the fatal explosion at Appiatse should be donated to the Appiatse Support Fund.

Appiate town will get $5 million from the $6 million fine imposed on the mining company whose truck and mining equipment caused the explosion that took the lives of some 14 people and injured over 50 people.

On January 20, 2022, the township of Apiate was torn apart after a truck transporting mining explosives collided with a motorcycle along the Tarkwa-Bogoso-Ayamfuri road.

Maxam Ghana Limited, the mining company involved in the explosion on February 8 were fined $6 million by the Government of Ghana.

The President in a letter signed by Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Honorable Abu Jinapor hopes this $5 million help rebuild the town and support the victims over their loss.
