Production Of Covid-19 Vaccines To Be Initiated By German Biotech Company In Africa, In Cooperation With Ghana, Rwanda, And Senegal.

Ghana, Rwanda, and Senegal, on Wednesday, 16th February 2022, enrolled into a joint partnership with German biotechnology company, BioNTech SE, to produce, fill, finish, and package BioNTech mRNA vaccines for COVID-19, Malaria, and Tuberculosis in Africa.

It is an initial step in the chain of household vaccine output which will increase vaccine supply in Africa. Marketable production of vaccines is anticipated to begin in 2023.

The first modular vaccine output facility (BioNTainer) is foreseen to be transported in mid-2022. BioNTech will transport BioNTainers to Rwanda and Senegal, and Ghana will support the manufacturing with fill-and-finish powers.

Vaccines produced in these facilities are estimated to be assigned to domestic use and shipped to other component states of the African Union at a not-for-profit price.
