Ukrainian League halted following Russia invasion

Ukrainian football grinds to an abrupt halt

Following an invasion by neighboring Russia, the Ukrainian Premier League has officially halted operations.

The league said in a brief statement that the suspension was imposed as a result of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s declaration of martial law.

Despite its anticipated return from the winter break on Friday, the Ukrainian Premier League will be halted for at least 30 days.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, there has been considerable condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, with inhabitants hurriedly leaving the country.

This development has ramifications for Ukraine’s next World Cup play-off match against Scotland on March 24.
