Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the call for peace.
This follows Russian President Vladimir Putin declaring war on Ukraine on Thursday, February 24, and launching strikes across the country.
The 37-year-old took to Instagram and wrote to his following of 407 million people: “We need to create a better world for our children. Praying for peace in our world.’
Man United, Ronaldo’s club, has since canceled a £40 million sponsorship agreement with Aeroflot.
Although the six-year deal with Russia’s national carrier had 18 months left, United confirmed on Friday that it had been terminated.
Aeroflot’s branding is also being removed from Old Trafford, where the airline’s name is painted across the car park behind the Stretford End, with work set to begin as soon as possible.
