LaLiga: You let Messi go, signed Ferran Torres for £45m – Koeman blasts Barcelona

Former Barcelona defender and manager, Ronald Koeman, has hit out at the club for allowing Lionel Messi to leave last summer.

Following a run of poor results, Koeman was fired by the LaLiga giants in October.

The Dutchman has now spoken about his surprise at Barcelona spending £45 million to sign Manchester City’s Ferran Torres.

Torres’ arrival came after Koeman was forced to release several players during the summer, including Lionel Messi, who signed a free transfer with PSG.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties prevented them from renewing Messi’s contract, so he had to leave.

“It was at the insistence of the club’s hierarchy that I agreed to the departure of certain players to help put the finances in order.

“But then when you see that they sign someone for €55m shortly after letting Messi go, it makes you wonder if something else was happening. Why did Messi have to leave?” Koeman told Dutch newspaper, AD.
