Chelsea Football Club has been informed by the UK Government that its owner, Roman Abramovich, has been sanctioned.
Chelsea FC would ordinarily be subject to the same sanctions regime as Mr. Abramovich due to his 100 percent ownership of Chelsea FC plc and connected organizations. The UK Government, on the other hand, has provided a general license allowing Chelsea FC to conduct some activities.
We will play our men’s and women’s team matches today against Norwich and West Ham, respectively, and will hold conversations with the UK Government about the license’s scope. This will entail requesting that the license be changed so that the Club can operate as regularly as feasible.
We will also seek information from the UK Government on how these measures may affect the Chelsea Foundation and its vital work in our communities.
