EPL: Five players set to leave Chelsea as Abramovich sanctions begin to bite
At least five players will leave Chelsea this summer, as the club begins to grapple with sanctions imposed on owner, Roman Abramovich, according to talkSPORT.
On Thursday, Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government and his assets frozen.
Chelsea have been given a special license to continue operating. However, the club cannot sell tickets, merchandise and sign players when the transfer window opens.
They will also be unable to negotiate new contracts with existing players and staff members.
The Blues have four senior players who are set to be out of contract at the end of the season.
Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azplicueta, Andreas Christensen and Charly Musonda are the senior players who are entering the final months of their deals.
Saul Niguez’s future also looks to have been decided, with Chelsea now unable to activate the purchase option in his loan deal from Atletico Madrid which expires this summer.
