Man City have £100m Erling Haaland ‘deal in place’ with personal terms discussed

Erling Haaland is one of the most sought after stars in world football and Manchester City appear to now be the Norwegian's preferred destination when the summer transfer window opens

Manchester City have a ‘deal in place’ to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland at the end of the season.

The Norwegian is seen as a Ballon d’Or winner in waiting by many due to how he is already regarded as one of the best strikers in world football at just 21 years old.

The Dortmund star has scored 16 goals in 14 Bundesliga appearances so far this season and has continued to be linked with moves to some of Europe’s giants.

Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all previously been linked with Haaland and are all thought to be keen to trigger the £63million release clause that becomes active in his contract in the summer.

However, City have stolen the upper hand in negotiations.

According to Sportsmail, the Etihad Stadium outfit have already discussed personal terms with the sought after star and have ‘the framework of the transfer’ ready to be signed.

They go on to state that the deal is likely to cost up to £100m including the transfer fees, which is well within the reach of City.

It is believed that Barca and Paris Saint-Germain are City’s two main rivals for Haaland, though he is expected to choose to join the Premier League table-toppers instead.

Pep Guardiola has been vocal in his desire to sign a striker since last summer, with Tottenham ’s Harry Kane being his number one target before the start of the season but the England international was not able to force a move.

But Haaland will be a long-term fix to Guardiola’s issue and could be the final piece to the puzzle that enables City to win the Champions League if they miss out this season.

So far this season, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva have all operated as makeshift forwards in a false nine system, and with plenty of success.

But having a powerful, towering target-man to spearhead their attack could make the club that his father once played for, Alfie, an unstoppable force.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton spoke of how Haaland will be a lethal force in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 55-year-old said: “Funny how City can go from having no striker at all to bagging the one they all want. The one with Ballon d’Or awards in his future. The one who guarantees goals because he can execute whatever type of finish is required with ease.

“Haaland’s left foot can be used as a sledgehammer, or he can use it to dink a delicate chip into the back of the net. To have that range and knowledge of which finish to use and when at 21 years of age is such a weapon. My old strike partner Alan Shearer was like that: just brutal in his finishing.

“As a member of the former Premier League strikers club, I’d love to spend my Saturday nights watching this on Match of the Day. Haaland doesn’t seem like someone who would be fazed by the pressure of trying to score against the best goalkeepers and defenses in the world.
