Just In: Government Extends Deadline for SIM Cards Registration – Check New Date

The office of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has today, March 22nd, extended the deadline for SIM card registration.

The SIM registration exercise began on October 1st, 2021 and is expected to end on March 31st, 2022. This exercise was to ensure a credible SIM database with integrity, which will help address issues of cyber fraud and promote secure SIM Card based transactions.

According to the ministry, as of March 17th, 14,091,542 SIM cards have been linked to the Ghana Card, 10,348,5532 Bio-Captures have been conducted, and 99,445 new SIMs have been registered.

In a letter signed by Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, over 7.5 million citizens and residents are yet to obtain Ghana Cards to enable them to register their SIM cards.

She also added that, more time will be required to update the SIM Registration App and also develop Self-Service SIM Registration App to facilitate registration of SIM cards for Ghanaian resisdent aboad.

The above issues has lead to the ministry extending the deadline to 31st July, 2022.
