I felt betrayed- Asamoah Gyan finally break silence after Dede replaced him as captain in 2019

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah (Baby Jet) Gyan stated he felt deceived and couldn’t control his emotions after he was deprived of the captaincy in 2019.

Before the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, then-head coach Kwasi Appiah appointed André Ayew as the new captain of the Black Stars.

According to a statement issued at the time, a transition committee stated that they had given their full support to the coach’s objectives.

Gyan, who has led the Black Stars for a record seven years, has been promoted to “General Captain.”

In addition, Kwadwo Asamoah was named deputy captain.

Speaking on Asaase FM, Gyan suggested that he was angry and could not bottle up his emotions when the strange decision was taken.

In his words, “I felt betrayed (when the Captain’s armband was taken from me in 2019) so I couldn’t control my emotions. People who know everything behind the scenes, know I was betrayed.”
