Why Is Rod Wave In Jail? Rapper Faces Felony Charge After Florida Arrest

Rapper Rod Wave has been arrested and faces a felony charge, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Tampa Bay Times reports.

The news comes after the artist confirmed to fans he has finished his fourth album, Beautiful Mind.

WHY WAS ROD WAVE ARRESTED?

Rod Wave, real name Rodarius Marcell Green, was arrested on Monday, May 2nd in St Petersburg, Florida, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Sinni told the Tampa Bay Times.

According to the report, the 23-year-old rapper was taken into custody at a traffic stop at 5119 Venetian Boulevard. He was in the passenger seat of a 2021 Grey Dodge Durango, which he owned.

According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office records, Rod Wave is awaiting trial and no bond had been announced at the time of writing.

As per the same Tampa Bay Times report and police records, the rapper faces a felony charge of battery by strangulation. Other details about the arrest have yet to be confirmed.

ROD WAVE ANNOUNCED ALBUM PRIOR TO REPORTS

Rod’s arrest comes after confirming he’d wrapped work on his new album, Beautiful Mind.

The rapper made the much-awaited announcement with a freestyle over Future’s new single with Drake, Wait For U. His previous album, SoulFly, peaked at the No 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

As fans look forward to the new project, the 23-year-old star hinted in January 2022 he would be retiring from his rap career at some point in the future.

“I’m only here for a little longer and, when I say that, I mean as in Rod Wave,” he said in an Instagram video (via XXL Magazine). “I’m only here for a little minute, man. This s**t not really me, man.”

WHEN IS THE NEW ALBUM RELEASED?

Beautiful Mind will be released on June 3rd 2022.
