The Vardy v Rooney trial was previously known as the Wagatha Christie trial. The trial is known as the Wagatha Christie trial because it involves WAGs – wives or lovers of football stars – as a result of Agatha Christie’s works as a mystery writer.

Coleen Rooney is being sued by Rebekah Vardy for accusing her (via social media) of leaking Coleen’s private life issues to the Sun Newspaper in 2019. Coleen claimed Rebekah sold her personal stories to a British publication, which Rebekah denied.

As a result, Rebekah was forced to drag Coleen Rooney to the High Court of Justice to clear her name. Rebekah is expected to persuade the court that Coleen leaked her stories to the Sun and published the accusation on social media in the public interest.

Wayne Rooney testified in the Wagatha Christie libel case that he never discussed it with Jamie Vardy because the Leicester City striker was not a friend outside of football.
