Mr. Odibe Emeka, a Nigerian author, is currently recovering after attempting suicide. The Anambra state based young man was duped of $140,000 (N58 million) by a Nigerian lady he met on Facebook.
According to the author, after selling off copies of his book in Canada, the lady was supposed to remit 70% of the proceeds to him.
“The first printed 100,000 copies would sell out in six months and fetch me at least $140,000, which would have been used to kick start my company as stated in the contract.”
“She blocked me off all means I could reach her and refused me access to my book,” he said.
After realizing he had been duped, he attempted suicide by drinking poison, but he was discovered and rushed to St. Charles’ Borromeo Hospital in Onitsha by his elderly parents.
