Anthony Perry, a 20-year-old man from Chicago, has been hailed a hero after risking his life to save a man who was electrocuted by the subway’s train track.

The man was reportedly fighting when he fell on the lethal electrified rail and began fighting for his life as 600 volts passed through his body.

Perry, who had just gotten off a train on Sunday, June 5, noticed the struggling man, who was visibly vibrating as electricity surged through his body, and jumped into action, pulling him away from the tracks.

Perry performed CPR on the man, who is said to be receiving treatment at the time, with the assistance of another witness.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the man will recover completely.

Following the incident, a local community leader presented Perry with a brand new car in recognition of his bravery on Wednesday, June 8.

Anthony Perry stated in an interview with WGN TV,

“I don’t believe I was thinking about what might happen to me at the time.” It was more of a question of what I needed to do to make the situation peaceful. I was taken aback. I felt it all over my body, but I didn’t let it stop me.’

“Nothing was done; they just wanted to record.”

In another interview with CBS News, Perry was quoted as saying about the incident,

“I could have kept walking, but you know what? I’m not going to keep walking because God would not want me to, so I took action right away.

“I was thinking about how I would want people to treat me if I were in that situation.” More than anything, I’m relieved that the man is still alive. To be honest, I didn’t see myself as a hero.”
