“Please pray for me”: Justin Bieber says he has a rare syndrome that has paralyzed his face.
Friday, the 28-year-old pop star posted a 3-minute video on Instagram explaining the diagnosis.
Just days after having to cancel dates on his Justice World Tour because of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, Justin Bieber said that he fears he won’t be able to eat. He asked his fans to pray for him.
The hearing loss and facial paralysis associated with Ramsay Hunt syndrome are temporary but can become permanent, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Justin’s right eye couldn’t blink, and the right side of his face didn’t move as he began the video, saying, ‘Hey everyone, Justin here, I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on.’
‘Obviously, as you can probably tell by my expression. I have Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which is caused by a virus that attacks the nerves in my ear and facial nerves, causing paralysis in my face.’
Justin later posted a depressing update on his Instagram Story, writing: ‘Been getting progressively harder to eat, which has been extremely frustrating, please pray for me.’
The artist announced on Tuesday that he was canceling the ‘next few shows’ of his seven-leg, 130-date Justice World Tour due to ‘non-Covid related illness.’
‘I can hardly believe I’m saying this. ‘I’ve tried everything to get better, but my illness is worsening,’ the 28-year-old pop star, who has 539.2 million social media followers, wrote.
‘It breaks my heart that I will have to cancel these next few shows’ (doctors orders). I love you all so much, and I’m going to rest and recover.
In the video posted on Friday, Justin demonstrated the devastating effects of his diagnosis by not blinking, smiling, or moving his nostrils on the right side of his face.
‘So there is complete paralysis on this side of my face,’ he explained. So, for those who are disappointed by my cancellations of the upcoming shows, I’m simply not physically capable of doing them. As you can see, this is a serious situation.
‘I wish this wasn’t the case, but my body is telling me that I need to slow down, and I hope you understand.’ I’ll use this time to rest, relax, and regain my strength so that I can do what I was born to do.’
According to FacialPalsy.org.uk, if antiviral treatment is given within 72 hours of developing symptoms, approximately 70% of people will experience a nearly complete recovery, and if nerve damage is mild, recovery should occur within a few weeks.
Justin concluded by saying that he is doing everything he can to address the problem, including resting, but that he doesn’t know how long it will take him to recover.
‘I love you guys,’ he said. Thank you for your patience, and I promise to improve. I’m doing all of these facial exercises to restore my face to normalcy, and it will.
‘It’s just time; we don’t know how much time it will take, but it’ll be fine.’ I hope and trust God, and I believe that everything is happening for a reason. I’m not sure what that is right now, but I’m going to rest and I love you guys in the meantime. Peace.’
Justin Bieber’s wife Hailey was hospitalized in March for a small blood clot in her brain, which caused her to experience stroke-like symptoms.
At the time, it was reported that Justin would not leave his 25-year-old wife’s side during her ordeal.
According to People, Justin is ‘probably more traumatized than even she is.’
‘There was a lot of panics when it happened. Justin was in tears because you don’t expect your young wife to have stroke-like symptoms. ‘Justin texted everyone he knew and asked everyone to pray for her, and he never left her side,’ according to an insider.
Justin had recently recovered from a bout of COVID-19 that had forced him to reschedule a few tour dates, his first major set of performances since wrapping up the Purpose world tour in 2017.
Hailey revealed on Instagram that she was hospitalized in Palm Springs in March after experiencing stroke-like symptoms and was later diagnosed with a small blood clot.’
According to sources, Justin has been worried sick about his wife, despite her pleas for him to be as stress-free as possible while she recovers from the incident.
‘Hailey doesn’t want anyone to be concerned about her, but it was a terrifying situation for both of them,’ said an insider. ‘Justin is still concerned. He has trouble sleeping. He keeps an eye on her while she sleeps.’
‘He would have done anything to help her,’ the source added. It was a time for them both to be reminded of their mortality and to focus on what truly matters.
‘He realizes and tells everyone around him how much Hailey is his rock and how she saved him from a bad situation… and that he must show her gratitude every day. He’ll keep an eye on her and assist her in any way he can. And everyone around him is praying for her continued health. It jolted him.’
‘On Thursday morning, I was sitting at breakfast with my husband when I started having stroke-like symptoms and was taken to the hospital,’ Hailey wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.
‘They discovered I had a very small blood clot in my brain, which caused a minor lack of oxygen, but my body passed it on its own and I recovered completely within a few hours,’ she says.
‘Although this was one of the scariest moments I’ve ever experienced, I’m home now and doing well, and I’m so grateful to all the amazing doctors and nurses who took care of me!’ she added.
‘Thank you to everyone who has sent well wishes and concern, as well as all the love and support.’
According to sources close to her, Hailey’s medical condition was interfering with her movement in some way, and she had undergone tests to determine the cause of her illness.
Doctors were concerned that her symptoms were related to COVID-19 because Justin had been diagnosed with the virus earlier in March, but no conclusive evidence could be found. It
