Barcelona midfield mainstay set to remain at Camp Nou amid Manchester United links

The future of Frenkie de Jong has been a hot topic in the Spanish media in recent months, as the Barcelona midfielder faces a dilemma over his prospects for next season.
The Dutchman is widely believed to be happy with his life in Barcelona. He wants to work with Xavi Hernandez and play a vital role in the club’s development under the Spanish tactician.
But amid growing financial pressure, Barcelona are contemplating a sale which would hand them a significant transfer revenue.
Manchester United are among the clubs interested in the services of de Jong, with their new manager Erik ten Hag keen on a reunion with the former Ajax starlet.
De Jong has so far resisted the overtures from Man United as they look to lure him to Old Trafford. The midfielder has a good relationship with ten Hag, but he is happy at Barça and wants to play in the Champions League next season.
De Jong’s desire to remain at Camp Nou has been confirmed by Lluis Canut via La Porteria. The journalist has confirmed the interest of Manchester United and their cross-town rivals Manchester City.
He even goes on to suggest the two clubs are set to go all out to sign the Barcelona midfielder this summer. But from his close sources, Canut can confirm the player wants to remain in Camp Nou and continue his progress under Xavi.
The Dutchman does not think of a switch this summer despite interest from the two Manchester giants.
As mentioned earlier, the former Ajax starlet is extremely happy with his life in Barcelona. And with just the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, the midfielder will be better advised to remain put rather than start a new adventure elsewhere.
De Jong’s stay at Barça does mean the club may need to come up with other means to generate the revenue and fund moves for their top targets in the market, including Robert Lewandowski, among many others.
