Barcelona hurt by star’s refusal to leave: Reports

Martin Braithwaite has refused Barcelona’s request to leave. The Dane will finish out his contract at the Nou Camp despite the Catalans’ disinterest. Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona’s hierarchy is hurt by the Dane’s reluctance to leave. Xavi Hernandez wants to strengthen his team in multiple positions before the new season and compete for trophies.
Many names are expected to leave the Nou Camp during this process. Luuk de Jong and Adama Traore’s loan deals end. Oscar Mingueza, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, and Rique Puig have been released by Barcelona. Braithwaite was told he’s not in Xavi Hernandez’s future plans. The 31-year-old forward refuses to accept that his Barcelona career is over.
Braithwaite had injury issues last season. Despite regaining fitness and returning to the team, Xavi ignored him all season. The striker made five appearances in 2021-22, scoring two goals and assisting once. In 58 games, he has 10 goals and five assists. He won Copa del Rey in 2020-21.
Barcelona striker still vital to national team
With the 2022 World Cup in Qatar approaching, players are getting plenty of game time to stay in shape and cement their spots on national teams. Martin Braithwaite is an exception. Despite knowing he won’t play much at Barcelona, he’s determined to stay.
Despite hardly playing for Barcelona, Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand picked him for this month’s UEFA Nations League matches.
Barcelona’s forward told TV 2 Sport (via MARCA) he’s grateful to represent his country.
“These four games are more than I played at Barcelona all season. I’m grateful for Kasper’s trust. I knew I couldn’t start every game, but I had to prove my fitness in training and the few minutes I had. I’m grateful for Denmark’s coaching staff’s trust “Braithwaite.
Braithwaite has 10 goals in 60 Denmark caps. He’s played all four Nations League games.
