A 17-year-old Apersua Community SHS day student from the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region perished in a motorcycle accident.
The accident happened on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
Emmissah Bright, a first-year General Arts student, died upon arrival at the Eastern Regional Hospital.
According to information received, the deceased and his classmate Ayer Theophilus, a Visual Arts student presently being treated at the same hospital, were riding a commercial motorcycle to school.
However, according to the rider, Elias Baakie, the motorbike collided with a rocky section of the Nkurakan to Huhunya road that is under construction directly in front of the School, causing him to lose control of the steering wheel and fall.
The pillion riders (students) were seriously injured, while the rider was only slightly hurt.
The pupils were sent to Eastern Regional Hospital, while the rider was taken to a neighborhood health clinic.
Emmissah Bright was pronounced dead, however, Ayer Theophilus is responding to treatment.
Doku Martin, one of their friends who followed them to the hospital in astonishment, collapsed but recovered consciousness.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Dzramado, head of the Nkurakan chapter of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, and officials from the Ghana Education Service’s Regional Directorate visited the victims at the hospital.
The deaths of the 17-year-old pupils occurred only days after Roland Asare, an 18-year-old student at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School, was stabbed to death in Koforidua.
