Nicki Minaj set to receive a Vanguard Award

Queen wins! Nicki Minaj will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year’s VMAs and perform for the first time since 2018.

The 17-time VMA candidate and five-time winner won Best Hip Hop Video in 2011 for “Do We Have a Problem.” Her VMAs performance follows the Aug. 12 release of “Super Freaky Girl.”

Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events for Paramount and Chief Content Officer, Music for Paramount+, said Nicki has shattered barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative ability. “Her broad appeal, genre-defying flair, and unapologetic ‘Nicki’ have made her a global sensation.”

Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid, and Panic! At The Disco will also perform. Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X have seven nominations each, while Doja Cat and Harry Styles have six. Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd each received five nominations.

Fans can vote on vote.mtv.com through Friday, Aug. 19; Best New Artist voting is open until the awards event.

Sunday, August 28 at 8 p.m. PT/ET, MTV airs the 2022 VMAs live.
