Eyinatayo Iluyomade, a 19-year-old comedian from Lagos, has been remanded in custody for pulling practical jokes by leaving a robbery threat note at the First Bank counter in Ondo town, Ondo State.
According to information obtained by GHNEWFILE, Iluyomade was accused by the police with three counts involving conspiracy, threats, and conduct that could endanger national security.
Akao Moremi, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant left a note at the bank warning that his armed robbery gang members would arrive to loot the bank at 1 pm on the same date.
According to Moremi, the note forced all banks operating in Ondo to close their doors for the entire day and created a security risk to the First Bank’s Sabo branch in Ondo town.
The accused entered a not guilty plea to the accusation leveled against him.
However, Hawkins Akinnugba, the defense attorney, requested the defendant’s bail under the most lenient terms possible.
However, the police prosecutor rejected the bail application on the grounds that the defendant would tamper with the purpose of the investigation because there were additional criminal components to the threat.
The trial Magistrate, Mosunmola Ikujuni, refused the bail application pending the apprehension of other members of the criminal gangs.
Ikujuni said “if on the next adjournment date, the prosecution is yet to apprehend all other criminals involved in the matter, then the court will do the needful.
She, therefore, adjourned the case for ruling on the bail application.
The defendant, however, told the court that he is a comedian and that the note that he dropped at the First Bank was a prank, adding that he has been doing this in Lagos until he relocated to Ondo town.
According to him, “this is the first time am playing the prank in Ondo.
He said “ there is no other gang that wanted to rob the bank as it was written in the note
Iluyomade, therefore, pleaded with the court to forgive him and promised not to play such a prank again
