On Wednesday, some Ghanaians in Qatar traveled to see Black Stars captain Andre Ayew play for the Qatari Stars in the Qatari Premier League.
One hundred Ghanaians showed up at Al Rayyan Stadium to watch Ayew and Al Sadd beat Al-Ahli Doha 3-2.
Fans were pleased with Ayew’s effort, despite his lack of a goal, in the five-goal thriller. He played a pivotal role in Rodrigo Tabata of Brazil scoring the game-winning goal.
The Ghanaian crowd was very vocal as they rooted for Andre Ayew and his side.
Last year’s champions Al Sadd, who had Ayew to thank for their success, have gotten off to a sluggish start this year.
After starting with a tie and a loss, they finally broke through with a win against Al-Ahli. They are currently in the last position, five points behind league leaders Al-Arabi with only four points.
One of Ayew’s goals this season came in the Asian Champions League, his lone such tally for the year.
Although he is yet to score a goal in the league, the Black Stars captain’s play has been praised. He is respected by his coach and colleagues and continues to get plaudits in the Arab world.
Ayew guided Al Sadd to the league win last year with 15 goals. In addition, he helped the team win the Emir Cup.
Ayew is excited to take the Black Stars to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in three months in Qatar.
As for the other teams in Ghana’s group, they are Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
