Xavi – Ansu Fati was benched against Real Sociedad for two reasons, one of which is related to Ferran.
Against Real Sociedad, Ansu Fati’s introduction drastically altered the course of the match. The teenage player gave Barcelona two outstanding assists and scored the winning goal in a challenging stadium to help Barcelona win 4-1.
The reporters, who may have been moved by the performances, questioned Xavi about why he didn’t employ Fati right away.
“Ansu Fati didn’t begin for a combination of two causes. First, take care. Secondly, based on other people’s merits. This week in training, Ferran Torres put in an outstanding performance. There is always competition at Barca, that is how things are.
“I choose the players I believe are best suited for that game and the ones that train the hardest. I don’t consider names or ages. I consider how valuable they are to the group and the team.
Ferran’s effort against La Real received praise from Xavi as well. To be completely honest, however, the 22-year-old was tonight’s team’s weakest player. He might, however, be underfit given that he missed the preseason due to injury.
