Nicki Minaj gave a performance that covered her whole career tonight (August 28) at the MTV VMAs 2022, where she is getting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The rapper is also helping to host the event at the Prudential Center in New Jersey with Jack Harlow and LL Cool J.
Minaj performed some of her biggest hits, such as “Super Bass,” “Bees in the Trap,” “Anaconda,” “Moment for Life,” and her verse from Kanye West’s “Monster.”
During the performance, the rapper also sang her new song “Super Freaky Girl.” Male and female dancers joined her on a neon-lit stage with poles and podiums to help her do a raunchy dance to the song. You can now watch a video of the performance down below.
Minaj thanked the artists who have inspired her and given her chances over the years as she accepted the Video Vanguard award. She also said, “I wish that Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were here.”
“I wish people knew what they were talking about and what they were going through. I wish more people cared about mental health, even if you think someone has a perfect life. I wish Pop Smoke, Nipsey Hussle, and Juice WRLD were still alive.”
At the start of the night, Harlow, Lil Nas X, and Kendrick Lamar had the most nominations, with seven each. Doja Cat and Harry Styles are next with six nominations each, and Taylor Swift is up for five awards. Here, you can find out about all the winners as they happen.

Tonight, Eminem and Snoop Dogg will also do a special performance together. They will do a “metaverse-inspired” version of their recent song, “From the D to the LBC,” which they wrote together.
Harlow opened the night with a special performance of “First Class” with Fergie, and Lizzo brought her new single “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” to the VMAs stage. With “Pink Venom,” BLACKPINK also made their first appearance at the VMAs.
Also, Minaj’s song “Super Freaky Girl” became the first single by a female rapper to start at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1998. The song is also her first number-one in the US as a solo artist.
