The baby was born at the Manipura Primary Health Center in the Shivpuri district of central India, and its health is stable.
After the baby was born, doctors rushed the mother and child to the Shivpuri District Hospital to keep a close eye on them.
Mermaid Syndrome, also called Sirenomelia, is a rare condition in which babies are born with something that looks like a horn on their lower body.
The baby has since been cared for by specialists at the hospital’s Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), but a doctor said the child is very underdeveloped and only weighs a little more than 2 pounds.
Even though the baby’s tail looks like a mermaid’s, it is not the first time in recent years that something like this has happened.
In 2017, a woman in Kolkata, India, surprised doctors by giving birth to a baby with a health problem.
She lost the baby after only four hours, which was very sad. The doctors were amazed by the miracle of medicine.
“I had never seen a baby like that before,” said Dr. Sudip Saha, a child specialist at the hospital where she gave birth.
