Narrow Escape As Thiago Silva Is Not Sent Off For Slapping The Ball With His Hand

Thiago Silva should have been sent off for a premeditated handball against Crystal Palace, but he escaped punishment.

When Palace was on the attack, the Chelsea defender intentionally slapped the ball away from Jordan Ayew.

Silva, aged 38, fell to the ground after being challenged by Ayew.

When the referee didn’t blow for a free kick, he used his hand to knock the ball out from under Ayew’s feet.

The home fans were expecting a red card from Silva because the striker appeared to be in on goal.

Ref Chris Kavanagh only gave Silva a yellow card, much to the dismay of the Selhurst Park crowd.

The incident was reviewed by VAR to determine whether Silva had prevented a goal-scoring opportunity, but the on-field call was upheld.

One social media user said, “Clear red card for Thiago Silva,” expressing disbelief that Silva hadn’t been shown the red card.

Someone else chimed in with: “To what end has Thiago Silva remained? Indeed, the VAR confirmed that it was the brightest crimson they’ve ever seen.”

Moreover, a third voice chimed in, “That was 1,000% a red on Thiago Silva.”
