Okafor Emmanuel Junior, a former Nigerian football player, was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, on his way back from Brazil for allegedly trafficking cocaine.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) caught Okafor on October 2, 2022, when he arrived in Lagos with 1.40kg of crack cocaine hidden in his bags, according to The Guardian Nigeria.
Femi Babafemi, a spokesman for the NDLEA, said that Okafor played for UNTH Enugu FC before he left Nigeria for Sri Lanka and then went to Brazil, where he couldn’t continue his career because of paperwork problems.
Okafor told the first interviewer that he used to play football for the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH Enugu FC, where he spent four seasons before moving to Sri Lanka in 2014. He also said that after playing for two seasons in Sri Lanka, he moved to Brazil but could not advance in football there because he did not have the right paperwork.
Babafemi also said that another Brazilian named Ibeh Chinedu was also arrested for hiding 3.20kg of black cocaine.
“When Ibeh Chinedu Damian arrived at the Lagos airport from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight the same day, he was also arrested. Ibeh, who is from Ahiazu in the Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, was found to have hidden 3.20kg of black cocaine, also known as “Lucci,” in the false bottoms of his two bags.”
