Some Members of Parliament in the Greater Accra Region have asked the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey to work assiduously in ensuring the constant supply of water in the region.

According to the legislators, the erratic supply of water undermines the government’s effort at making Accra the cleanest city.

During the engagement with the regional minister, the Sege MP, Christian Otuteye, noted that the water situation in some areas was “very very serious.”

“Particularly, when you go to Sege and in Accra where I live is also bad now,” he said.

“In order to really really fight against filth and dirt which we are not comfortable with, we must make sure water also flows,” the legislator added.

Also on the issue, the Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George, highlighted the link between water and sanitation.

“It is difficult for you to have a successful cleanliness campaign if water is not flowing. It is one of the key things that I believe we will need to look at and I know it is not peculiar to Ningo Prampram. It cuts across several constituencies.”

These concerns come as the government is set to embark on a General Clean-Up exercise in the Greater Accra Region from April 9, 2021.

All corporate entities and traders will be required to clean-up their frontages every morning between the hours of 6 am and 10 am starting from the aforementioned date.

Addressing the media, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey says the initiative forms part of the government’s efforts at making Accra the cleanest city.
