Amidst growing concerns of public safety for the Chiefs and people of Tema due to the impact of COVID-19, the area’s Traditional Council, has unanimously cancelled the celebration of this year’s Kplejoo Festival.
The Chiefs and people of Tema have celebrated the festival for ages.
Speaking to the media, the Shippi of the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Amarh Sonponu said it is unfortunate this year’s celebration has been called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic and misconduct of some youth groups in the community.
According to him, enmity between the said groups has forced the Council to ban them from taking part in future activities within the Traditional Area.
Nii Armarh noted that any group of people who would defy the orders of the Traditional Council over the cancellation of the festival and the non-observance of COVID-19 safety protocols will be dealt with.
